What did I NOT buy today?

Cinnamon sugar. You may have seen it in the spice aisle. We had a jar from who knows when, and I'd started putting it in my coffee in the mornings. We ran out, and without thinking I added it to my grocery list.

It wasn't until I was standing in the spice aisle and looking at the price that I thought, "How dumb; I can make this at home." I had plenty of cinnamon from my last trip to Penzey's, and most of a big 10-lb. bag of sugar from the warehouse club. So, when I got home I made up a HUGE batch--enough to flavor my coffee for months. Cost--$0.00.

I guess the moral of this story is that even when you're trying to watch your spending, it's easy to go on autopilot--yet another classic money wasting mistake.

Good job catching yourself ;) I've been trying to get to the Penzey's in Arlington since it opened but it just seems like the other end of the earth from me (silly, I know) and we're out of some of our staples! ack!

I'd probably never make it out there myself, except I have a coworker who loves Penzey's, and occasionally he and I will make a lunch trip out there. I'm running low on a few staples, too, so I'll probably get out there again pretty soon!
