Headline: Luddite discovers RSS readers

I finally got around to using an RSS reader to keep up with all of the PF blogs I've come across (currently > 100). I'm not sure why it took me so long. What an incredible time-saver! Now I know exactly who has posted, and how many times, and I don't waste time going to pages that aren't updated. And I no longer partially dread coming across new PF blogs because it's more to keep up with.

There's one thing I haven't figured out--some sites, no matter what feed I try, only give me summaries. One has a note to the effect of "This is a summary only; please visit my site for full content," so I assume that the author has done that intentionally to build traffic. Other sites have no such note, and so I'm not sure why it's happening. Of course, I'd rather see full content than summaries if possible. Can anyone advise me?

Also, I wasn't sure which feed to use. I mainly chose a mix of feedburner and atom; if the site had one of its own, I chose that one. I really can't tell the difference.

Oh, and the summary-only problem doesn't seem to be a "feedburner vs. atom" issue.

Hi SMB,

Welcome to the feed reader world! I have been on bloglines for some time now. The reason I went from full feed to summary feed was because some folks out there in internet land create websites, pack them with ads, and just plug in feeds to provide content. So these zombie autobot sites are making money off bloggers free content. When I found a few were doing this to me early on I went into my settings in blogger and switched to summary feed. I have not figured out how to leave a note on my feed informing folks why I did this...

The cool thing about the reader is you can read the first few sentences of the feed and decide if you want to click over and read the full post or not. It saves a ton of time!

Thanks for the tips, folks!

Jane, your site was one that I was referring to, but now that you explain it I can completely understand why you'd be summary-only. I've seen some of those ad- and feed-heavy sites and find them annoying.
