Freeze those bananas!
Don't be afraid to buy a whole bunch of bananas. Frozen banana slices make a tasty treat, especially when paired with the aforementioned frozen grapes. Simply peel, slice, and freeze on a baking tray for a few hours, before putting them in an airtight container. I have to admit I'm not sure how long they keep--I tend to use them well before I notice any degradation in quality.

They're especially handy if you make a lot of smoothies, as I do. All of the fruit I use is frozen, so I don't have to add ice. I bought a huge bag of frozen mixed berries from Costco several weeks ago, and I'm still using it. (Admittedly, I'm getting a little tired of the same smoothie every day, so I'll be glad when I've used it up.) But bananas are more of a smoothie base--I find I have to have either bananas or yogurt in my smoothies.
The bananas above were also purchased at Costco: 4 lbs. for $1.30.

I have the same smoothie (strawberry-wheat germ) nearly everyday and I am surprised I don't hate it. the only change is apple or cranberry juice.
I"ll have to try this. I always used to throw bananas in the freezer whole, thinking I'd someday make banana bread but then I'd just end up with brown frozen bananas falling out of the freezer every time I opened it, and i'd eventually throw them out!
